Fire from Iceland | by Erik Erikson
On November 8, 1991, God spoke to evangelist Erik Erikson to build a Christian television station in Iceland. Erik applied for a TV broadcasting license, and after nine months of preparation, the Gospel Channel went on the air on July 28, 1992.
Erik was not a likely candidate for running a successful international broadcast enterprise. Having been raised in a broken home, he left school at 14 with no qualifications. For years Erik drifted from one dead-end job to another, swept here and there by waves of alcohol and personal loss. Then Erik met Jesus, and something burst from him like the lava below Iceland’s surface. A hot power that could not be contained.
From its humble beginnings as a 10-watt television transmitter in Iceland, Omega TV and later Gospel Channel is now approaching its silver anniversary and reaches millions of homes throughout Europe via satellite.
Fire from Iceland recounts the story of Erik’s journey, the miracles that led to the launch of the Gospel Channel and the many principles of faith Erik learned along the way. Readers will be moved by his transparency and inspired to trust God in their own lives and obey His leading – wherever it may take them.
